Brooklin is a very special girl who made a huge sacrifice to benefit a little boy in Colombia who is waiting for a home. Since this event, a family has stepped forward to adopt the little boy that her fund-raiser benefited. For this adoptive family and for all of us at Project Hope, Brooklin’s sacrifice served as a reminder of how amazing our God is and how He works through so many to bring about His purpose.
So here is her story, as written by her parents:
“Our family decided years ago that we would treat our girls to one big, friend birthday party when they turn 10. When the time came to send out invitations, I asked Brooklin to consider asking for money for her birthday instead of gifts. The thought of 20 girls spending $20 each on gifts that she didn’t need seemed extravagant. After talking with Brooklin, we decided that asking for money for someone in need and a small gift was a good balance of fun for her but also not making it ALL about her. We began talking about ideas of what she could raise money for and nothing seemed to “fit”. Brooklin is in a spanish immersion class and it seemed like a good idea to try and connect her desire to give to a cause with her spanish. I just happened to mention it to a friend one day and she mentioned Project Hope immediately. Brooklin loved the idea and was confident that this is what she wanted to ask for money for. Brooklin’s friends were AMAZINGLY generous and gave $125. One family also offered to double her donations and by the end, the donation totaled $250.”
Brooklin’s friend, Isabel (who was adopted from Colombia), helped her make this event a reality. Thank you Brooklin and Isabel for being an inspiration to us and for making a life-changing difference in the life of an orphan!
