We are excited to announce a new partnership with a local organization in Bogota, Colombia that will greatly expand our current ministry to the Prado Community. The Prado Community is a neighborhood in Bogota that contains many families that live in poverty. Many of them find work in sifting through garbage to find things that can be turned in to recycling centers for minimal pay. God has led us to work within this community over the years to help make a difference in the lives of the children there.
The program is called “Hogar de Paz”. It is a daily, year-round, after-school program for kids that are struggling in school and have minimal support at home. Kids will attend school in the morning (this is the regular schedule for most Colombian schools), then will be brought to the Community Center for lunch and additional academic instruction from a licensed teacher. The kids will have access to technology and additional programs that their schools cannot provide.
This program will be open to 25 students, who will be selected as being the most in need of it by their local school. Similar programs have been created in other parts of Bogota, and have seen great success with increasing the academic achievements of the students.
Will you please help us make this possible for 25 students in the Prado Community?
We are looking for 25 sponsors – 1 for each child in the program. Each sponsor will commit to giving $25 per month, for at least the remainder of this school year (the program will reset in February when the new academic year begins in Colombia). You will receive a picture of the child you are sponsoring, along with 5-6 letters per year from your child.
One of the reasons we are so excited about this program is because of the many people who will benefit. The Community Center will continue to be housed in the local church that Project Hope works with. The rental income they’ll receive will make a big difference for this church, as they have a very limited budget. The center will also provide a job to a new teacher, help build good-will in the community towards the local church, and support struggling families. Your support will make it possible for your sponsored child to have a healthy lunch that they may not otherwise have, and give opportunities for them to improve their focus and interest in education. Will you help us?
