What to Expect
Services at Tierra Linda begin at 10:30 AM and end around 12:30 PM. Most of the church attendees arrive late, and come in as the music portion of the service begins. The service consists of contemporary music, followed by announcements and offering. When the sermon begins, children and teens can leave to attend the children’s service.
Getting There
The easiest and most inexpensive way to get to Tierra Linda is by bus. You can also get a taxi, but due to one-way routes it actually takes longer to travel via taxi. If you choose to take a taxi the address of the church is Calle 127B BIS 49-94 in Tierra Linda.
To get a bus, go to the bus stop area on Boyacá. There are 2 main types of busses in Bogota. Blue busses (or “SITP”) are run by the city, and require a special pre-paid card to ride. We recommend that you take a non-blue bus (comes in several different colors), which are usually privately owned and accept cash. Either way, each person will pay about $1.600 pesos (about $.70 US). All non-blue busses have signs in the front window that tell their route. You are looking for any bus that says “UNICENTRO” in the front. Hail them the same way you hail a taxi. If you have a group, everyone should get on as quickly as possible and then one person can pay for all riders.
The bus will travel North for about 1 mile, and then will go East. Once it turns, you will soon see a mall on the left called Bulevar Niza. It has a large McDonald’s sign on the outside. About a mile past the mall, you will see a foot bridge on your left that crosses the median. That is your cue to get ready. Soon after that foot bridge is a second foot bridge. This is where you need to get off. There is a button above one of the doors on the bus and you just need to push it to let the driver know that you want to get off. If there is a back door on the bus, you’ll get off at that door.
When you get off, you should see a bus stop with a traffic light.
Cross the foot bridge and continue to go straight. You’ll go past a small grocery store on your right and then a pharmacy, where you should turn right.
Go one block and look to your left, and you will see the church.
To return to the Project Hope House when service is done, we recommend a taxi. There is a taxi line nearby the church.
